This is merely a collection of links to websites of friends, family and
people I know, as well as sites that are just plain fun with no redeeming
social or academic value. Enjoy. And be sure to tell them who sent you.
Campus
Talk Magazine: The most legit job this website has led me to yet.
Like Maxim for college kids and distributed to student unions across
the country, pick up an issue every month to get several doses of my humor
and illegitimate advice. The perfect thing to read in that boring lecture
class they're making you take.
Greenwich Village Gazette:
The e-zine where
my humor column began. A good place to get "alternative" views
on current issues in New York and the world, as well as to read my thoughts
about spiders and spoons and stuff.
The
Panic Years: The witty upcoming book for young single women by
Doree Lewak about "Surviving smug married friends, bad taffeta, and
life on the wrong side of 25 without a ring."
All
Boxed In: Seriously the freshest, funniest, most original comic
strip I've read in a long time... and I'm not just saying that because
I know the artist. Bob Canning has produced a strip, available only online,
about four out-of-work comic strip characters... as in the characters
in his comic strip are characters in comic strips... albeit,
unemployed ones.
Sister Betty:
If you enjoy my writing style, then you'll spend hours and hours absorbed
in this guy's site as well. From an awesome road trip chronicle to a truly
engaging blog, this guy makes you laugh and makes you think and does it
all from a gay man's perspective.
Chris
Epting: A seasoned travel writer, this guy has written several
road trip books detailing the history and location of hundreds of American
pop culture events: from the crash site of the Hindenberg to the restaurant
where the hamburger was invented.
Query
Letters I Love: As a former literary assistant, I am in love with
this site. The most insane, horrible, laughable, idiotic, juvenile - and
100% real - screenplay query letters ever to hit a Hollywood reader's
desk.
Burnin' Vernon Productions:
The company that produced the major motion picture "Wish You Were
Here" which you've never seen. I spent the best month of my life
working with director, Jason Smith and producer, Bill Kingsbury on their
film about three guys escaping life on a road trip only to find it along
the way.
Amy Loftus:
With the attitude of Aimee Mann and the hauntingly spiritual voice of
Alison Krauss, Amy is an as-yet undiscovered singer/songwriter. Her music
is a little bit folky, a little bit bluesy, a little bit country, a little
bit rock-n-roll, and a whole lot of passion. Read my article about Amy
here.
Strongbad's
E-mail: An easy
addiction. I can't even explain it. It's just a guy wearing boxing gloves
answering e-mails. Your first reaction will be, "What the hell is
this?" followed by, "Why am I laughing at this?"
and ending with, "Come here, you have to see this!"
Evil
Conservative Industries: If you are an evil conservative who enjoys
dumping arsenic into the public water supply, stealing oil from sovereign
nations and killing baby rabbits just because they're POOR, this is your
site. Lots of great political flyers and paraphernalia, including the
must-have accessory for every evil conservative: the "I LOVE HALIBURTON"
t-shirt.
Geo
Metro Power: This
guy Gustav loves Geo Metros. No, I mean he really LOVES
Geo Metros. So much so that he's devoted an entire site to this "international
car of mystery." Geo jokes, a Geo history and many many pictures
of Geos to be found. Read my column about my Geo here.
Redpaw FX:
My friend from college, John Cassella's site. John does CGI effects for
movies. His screen credits include (among others) The Matrix Reloaded,
Amercian Beauty, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Mission Impossible
2.
Even Another:
Another friend from
college, Vic Carbonneau's personal site. Plenty of pictures of people
you don't know. You MUST check out the bar that Vic built himself from
scratch, complete with a Green Bay packers logo bar top made entirely
out of bottle caps!
JasonJasonJason:
"And you thought your website was half-assed."
Yet another friend from college. Can you guess what his name is?
Plenty more pictures of people you don't know as well as postcards and
imprinted pennies from around the world.
Trinity
63: The television
show I produced in college about a Christian television station. It's
primitive and full of flaws (the site, not the show), but if any big studio
head happens by it and wants to make it into a movie (the show, not the
site), please make checks payable directly to me.
Emerson College:
My alma mater back in Boston specializing in communications and the performing
arts. Even though I'm currently very upset with them for selling all the
really cool old brownstone buildings I used to call home, I figured I'd
still be their pimp for anybody interested.
Prime
to Go - The Portable Post Production People:
The day job everybody
keeps telling me not to quit. We rent Avids®. For a week, for
a month, in your edit suite or in your hotel room, we tailor each system
to your specific needs and ship anywhere in the country.
IN-N-OUT
Burger: The best
burger you will ever eat - EVER. Unfortunately, they only operate
out of California, Nevada and Arizona. Read the menu, find locations and
buy fun In-n-Out merchandise. Read my column about them here.
KPIG:
107(OINK)5 out of Freedom, California. No one
format or genre. Just imagine the kind of music you'd hear in a gritty
Texas saloon or smoky blues dive. Great music that you won't hear anywhere
else. You have a pay a small fee to Real Player to hear them, but it's
totally worth it.
Dave
Barry: The man
who has made humor column writing in this country what it is today. Still
going strong after over 20 years, this guy has been a great model of comic
genius as I attempt to make money writing about spiders and spoons and
stuff.
